5th Grade Teachersjpendleton@seattleschools.org
Hello! I am so excited to be apart of the Blaine team as a fifth grade teacher. I previously taught fifth grade in the Kent School District for two years before making the transition to Seattle Public Schools. I grew up in Spokane, Washington and recently moved to the area a few years ago. I graduated from Washington State University with a bachelors degree in education. GO COUGS! Within the next few years I hope to continue my education and get my Masters. I am looking forward to a fun-filled year getting to know the community and making connections with students and parents.
|Hi! I'm Andrea Porter-Smith, occupational therapist. I love being an OT and working with students to achieve their goals! When I'm not doing fun movement breaks and writing games with students, I enjoy running, walking my dog (Lenu), and playing with my 1-year-old baby at home. I'm excited to meet you this school year! Education: MOT University of Minnesota / BA Lewis and Clark College|

Sasha discovered her love of teaching when she volunteered at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon. Already a graduate with her B.A. in Psychology, she moved to Seattle to attend Antioch University where she earned her M.A. in Teaching. Being an assistant teacher at Lawton Elementary was the highlight of her teaching internship! Now as the new Kindergarten teacher she is looking forward to being a part of the Lawton community- building relationships with parents and children, inspiring them with a love of learning.
Sasha enjoys paddle boarding on Greenlake, camping in Montana, rooting on local sports teams, and spending quality time with family and friends.
"Teaching begins with seeing the significance and intelligence of what children are doing - and almost doing. Teaching means watching children through the lens of 'Zowie! What a gold mine!'" Lucy Calkins

We have 24 students in our class this year. They are a really great group of students who work hard and support each other. We have been writing personal narratives in writing. We love to read and are learning about story elements in reading. We are studying American history.
