    North Beach Elementary School

    Who we are

North Beach Elementary is a strong and vibrant community serving grades PreK-5, working to grow confident, compassionate, enthusiastic learners who strive to model excellence each day.

    North Beach vision

A strong community of teachers, parents and students who are dedicated to reaching our full potential as learners and citizens.

    North Beach mission

We collaborate to ensure that each child reaches his/her potential as learners and citizens. North Beach provides rigorous and differentiated instructional that challenges each student to achieve to the best of his or her ability. Our inclusive classroom communities are intentionally balanced to provide complex, open-ended, thought provoking and challenging activities with peers who have a variety of strengths and interests. North Beach Teachers are committed to learning and developing supportive practices to enhance opportunities at all levels of achievement.

    Our community

At North Beach Elementary, children are curious, eager to learn and cooperate with their peers. At school, they enter a nurturing environment where they are deeply known and cared for: from the Principal greeting each child by name as they enter through the front door to the teachers who engage and challenge each child at their own ability level. Our tutors and parent volunteers provide support in the classroom to help each child reach his or her full potential. Our families are truly partners in education at North Beach. More than 100 Fathers volunteer each year through our WATCH D.O.G.S.® program to support our staff and students. Monthly coffee chats are held by our principal to keep families informed on what is happening at school. North Beach staff partners with our PTA to provide a variety of enrichment opportunities and support for our classrooms. Our local Boys and Girls club provides before and after school care for our students. We are a “gem” of a school!

    A strong academic foundation

Our school is known for strong academic results and consistently ranks among the top public schools in our area.

We develop excellence in reading & writing through a leading-edge reading curriculum that gives all teachers and classrooms a consistent language and methodology of teaching, so that kids can progress year to year on a shared foundation. We have invested in extensive leveled libraries for each classroom so that kids can read books at their “just right” levels and stay engaged and excited about reading. Our “Walk to Math” program begins in First Grade, and gives children the ability to progress at grade level or to be challenged to work at the next grade level.

Students participate in an inquiry-based science curriculum which is enhanced by an all school science fair.

    Social and emotional intelligence

As a community we feel our teachings should go beyond academics. At North Beach we feel that building character and social/emotional intelligence is vital. We have an on-site counselor who teachers the Second Step Curriculum. In addition our counselor hosts “friendship groups,” works in individual classrooms when needs arise, supports students one-on-one, and acts as a resource for parents. In addition to this we have a character education program throughout the school which teaches one trait each month (e.g. honesty, courage, and responsibly).

Technology, the arts and physical education

Our PTA has invested heavily to enhance our technology resources for students & teachers as well as digital and print Library resources.

Our Parent Teacher Association and private donors from the community support our Arts program, funding Artists-in-Residence to enable our kids to receive Music and Art education on a regular basis. Pottery, painting, annual music shows, and an all-school musical are some of the opportunities that kids have to explore the arts.

Encouraging movement is important for our kids’ health, and enhances their ability to learn. Our Physical Education is second to none, and includes soccer, basketball, as well as cosmic bowling, archery, and indoor “snowball” fights!
